Square dance Saturday benefits strings program

Dancers at the 2015 benefit dance get instruction from caller Tim Jenkins.

Join the fun this Saturday at a traditional square dance — with all proceeds going to benefit strings music programs in the School District of La Crosse.

No square-dancing experience is necessary to have a good time on Jan. 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Concordia Ballroom, 1129 La Crosse St.

Admission is $5 with tickets available at the door. Children under 13 are free.

The “River City String Band,” consisting of La Crosse School District students, will play for the opening series of dances. The local  string band, “Grand Picnic,” will then play for the rest of the evening.

Tim Jenkins will teach and call dances — helping everyone from novices to experienced dancers have a great time.

For further information, contact Chuck Lee at 785-2205. The event is organized by the Coulee Region Old Time Music Association. Last year’s event raised $640 for strings music programs through a gift to the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
