Lincoln Show Choir is 3rd runner-up in Chicago event

With the help of generous donors, the Lincoln Middle School Show Choir made it to Chicago — and finished as the 3rd runner-up in a competition against vocal groups from Chicagoland and beyond.

The 9th Street Connection, a show choir featuring 7th- and 8th-grade students from Lincoln Middle School/SOTA II/Coulee Montessori, performed Friday, March 11 at a show choir invitational in Wheaton, Ill.

Final donation tallies are still being done, but nearly $4,000 was raised in donations — plus the choir received a $1,000 matching grant from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation to help offset costs of the trip.

The choir of 65 students is directed by Vocal Music Teacher Jennifer Gulsvig, who had previously judged this particular event in Wheaton.

None of the middle-school show choirs in La Crosse have traveled to a competition outside La Crosse. Prior to the trip, Jennifer encouraged her students by saying, “It will be fabulous to see these other groups because, while those groups are going to be very polished and fabulous groups, there is nothing that is different about these kids than our kids. They are middle school students just like us. They will be able to see that all it takes is hard work and dedication to be incredible.”

More details and photos will be coming soon on this great trip for Lincoln students.
