We care about our teachers and want to show our appreciation for the work of all school staff in the School District of La Crosse.
That was the message carried throughout the district on Wednesday, May 13, by volunteers organized by the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. Before school that day, volunteers fanned out to more than 15 locations, delivering muffins, donuts and fresh fruit for the staff as part of Thank a Teacher in La Crosse Public Schools Day.
Mayor Tim Kabat issued a proclamation, joining the Board of Education, Superintendent Randy Nelson and other district leaders in support of the recognition.
Treats were provided via grant support from the La Crosse Community Foundation’s Carol and Duane Taebel Family Fund. Other community volunteers participated, including Rotary Interact Clubs from Central and Logan high schools.
“Teachers give so much to our children,” said David Stoeffler, Executive Director of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. “It seems the least we can do is thank them – and all the teaching assistants, food service staff, custodians, administrative assistants, nurses, principals and other staff who make a difference every day.”
Parents and students, as well as members of the general public, joined in the celebration – including helping LPEF volunteers hand out treats before school.
La Crosse Logan Interact Club members created a slideshow featuring students holding signs with their messages of thanks for teachers and staff. The slideshow played during the brief staff meeting at Logan to celebrate Thank a Teacher Day. Click here for a video of the slideshow.
