Students at the new Northside Elementary school have a catchy new school song to sing due to the legacy of a former Franklin Elementary School teacher.
The Sally A. Grimslid Memorial Fund was established in 2005 to honor a dedicated teacher at Franklin. The Fund is held by the La Crosse Community Foundation with annual proceeds administered through the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
Proceeds are used to meet the needs of public schools students on the north side of La Crosse, providing children with books, educational supplies, field trips and similar endeavors. Since 2005, more than $11,000 has been distributed.
This past year, the fund helped support the writing of a new school song for Northside (see below for the lyrics). Other recent examples of programs funded through the Grimslid Memorial:
- In 2012, the grant supported an artist-in-residence, The Figureheads, whose innovative musical performances teach critical thinking skills on themes such as “inclusion” and “literacy.”
- In 2011, the donation paid for a professional theatre troop, CLIMB Theatre, to produce two plays related to bullying prevention and physical safety: “Rude Rudy Roo” for kindergarten through second-graders; and “Snapshots” for third through fifth-graders.
We’re All in This Together
We’re all in this together
Sing it out with pride
We’re all in this together
Coulee and Northside
We’re all in this together
Sing it out with pride
We’re all in this together
Coulee and Northside
Kindness and compassion
Power who we are
The way we treat each other
Everyone’s a star
We come from many places
We learn in many ways
Working with each other
Right here every day
We’re all in this together
Sing it out with pride
We’re all in this together
Coulee and Northside
Sunlight through our windows
Open to the sky
Bluffs are all around us
Rivers flowing by
We are always changing
As we move along
We will stick together
That’s what makes us strong
We’re all in this together
Sing it out with pride
We’re all in this together
Coulee and Northside
