About My Project: We have amazing students at Hintgen Elementary School. They are developing a great love of reading books! Many of our students are living in poverty, where their families are struggling to have enough funds for their homes, food, and basic needs. At the end of the month, most of our families do not have extra money to purchase books for their children to have at home.
In early literacy, readers grow the most when they are able to reread familiar texts. One of our favorite intervention materials that we use at Hintgen is the Leveled Literacy Library published by Heinemann. This program offers grey colored copies of every book that the children read with their teachers. The purpose of the grey copies are for the children to take home to these grey copies and keep them at home for rereading to increase their decoding and fluency skills. These are an amazing resource that we would like to provide for our 1st and 2nd graders. At this time our budget does not allow us to provide these for our children, and we really would like our students to have this needed resource.
Where Your Donation Goes:
We need to raise $1,100 to purchase two complete sets of “grey” copies – each set contains a 6-pack of each of the 110 titles used in the Leveled Literacy Library (for a total of 1,320 books to be shared with Hintgen families).
All donations to LPEF are tax-deductible.
- If fundraising falls short of the goal, money will be used to fulfill as much of the project as feasible.
- If fundraising exceeds the goal, the project will be expanded or money will go to a similar purpose at the same school.
