About My Project: I work with 4th and 5th grade students at Summit Environmental School. My students are all working toward individual goals in reading as part of their academic goals. My reading class has 8 students, which provides for more time in small groups to target skills and allows for the additional practice that they require to obtain mastery and progress in reading. The books by Bob Shea are a good match for their reading level, and interest. My students love books that feel approachable, do not have an overwhelming amount of text on a page, and are funny. They like books that make them laugh! Truthfully, I do as well. These books by Bob Shea are a magical mix of humor and life lessons that readers from 0-100 love. They are the rare books that you can read over and over and over and still want to read again.

I am excited to create a reading and writing themed unit with Bob Shea as the featured author. During the month that he is featured, I will plan reading lessons around these books using them to focus on reading strategies, and will model writing workshop lessons off of them. In the months following the author study my students will continue to devour these books. I have a library area ready for them, all it needs is the magic of Ballet Cat, Dinosaur, and Cheetah. Students will be allowed to take books home in their book bags. They are working towards a home reading goal of 100 books read at home this school year. These books will help make reading both at school and at home fun and engaging.
