La Crosse schools raised $7,285 through the Support-a-School.org website in 2016 for a variety of projects to enhance the educational experience of students.
The fundraising website was launched in late summer 2016 by the La Crosse Public Education Foundation. Half of the eight projects achieved their original fundraising goals, with partial funding accomplished for other projects.
The four projects that achieved their goals include:
- $5,505 raised online to help Southern Bluffs Elementary School build a track that will surround the playground, allowing those with all abilities in the building and community the opportunity to be together while supporting health and wellness.
- $625 raised online to purchase an oscilloscope and other equipment for use by students in the Logan High School Robotics and Digital Electronics classes.
- $325 raised online to buy an easel to utilize in the outdoor garden classroom at Hamilton/SOTA I Elementary, enhancing teaching and learning in this vibrant, hands-on classroom space.
- $260 raised online to match Hamilton school funds to buy Hokki stools to test as alternatives to student chairs for those who struggle with “sitting still.”
Support-A-School is an online donation platform – hosted by the La Crosse Public Education Foundation – open to use by public schools, Parent Teacher Organizations and individual staff members in the School District of La Crosse. Support-A-School provides educators with an alternative way to raise funds for important classroom projects through a low-cost, locally operated “crowdfunding” site. Proposed projects go through a quick and simple application process – with appropriate approvals by the School District of La Crosse.
